Getting started
How does the onboarding work?
A 6-step wizard collects your gender, age, height, weight, fitness level, primary goal, equipment access, and how many days a week you want to train. Forge uses these to recommend plans on the Today tab. Everything is editable later from the Me tab → Edit profile.
Why does Forge ask for my gender?
Two reasons: (1) the demonstrator videos in workouts are gender-resolved server-side so a female user sees the female variant when it exists, and (2) body-fat ranges in the AI estimator are gender-specific. Plans themselves are unisex — the same plan library serves everyone.
Can I use Forge without creating an account?
Yes. Forge identifies you with an on-device random ID — no email, no password. Everything personal (profile, scans, progress photos, chat history, body-fat estimates) lives in your phone's app storage. Uninstall = full delete.
Plans & workouts
How do plans work?
Each plan has a fixed duration in days (e.g. 28-day Calisthenics Foundations, 84-day 5×5 Strength). When you start a plan, Forge tracks which day you're on. Tap "Start workout" on the Today tab to begin the day's session. Finish it once per calendar day.
What if I miss a day?
Nothing breaks. The plan just resumes from where you left off the next time you tap Start workout. Your streak counter (top-left chip on Today) resets if you skip a calendar day, but your plan progress doesn't.
Can I do tomorrow's workout today?
No. Forge enforces one completion per calendar day to keep recovery realistic. If you re-enter the workout activity after finishing, you'll see "You're done for today" — come back tomorrow.
Can I swap an exercise during a session?
Yes. Tap the swap icon (↔) on any exercise during a session. A sheet shows alternatives that target the same muscle group and require comparable equipment. Picking one swaps the demonstration video and exercise name for that day; the prescription (sets, reps, rest) stays the same.
Why are some videos male and others female?
Each exercise has both variants where filmed. The app picks the one matching your profile gender. If only one variant was filmed for a given exercise, you see that one regardless.
How do daily reminders work?
Settings → Daily reminder. Pick a time, toggle on. Forge fires a local notification at that time every day until you toggle off. No server involved — works fully offline.
Streaks & history
What counts toward my streak?
Any completed workout day, including marked-complete rest days. A streak is a run of consecutive calendar days with at least one completion. Skip a calendar day → streak resets to 0.
How do I see my full history?
Top-left of the Today tab → tap the streak chip. The Streak screen shows a 30-day calendar (red = done, gray = missed, today is ringed) plus best run, this-week count, and lifetime total.
Nutrition & food scan
How does food scanning work?
Tap the center + button on the bottom nav, choose camera or gallery, and snap your meal. Forge sends the image to OpenAI Vision with a strict food-recognition prompt and returns name, serving estimate, calories, macros (P/C/F), fiber, sugar, sodium, a 1–100 health score, and three each of benefits / watch-outs.
The AI got something wrong. Can I fix it?
Yes. Open the scan, tap Edit. You can either type a free-form correction (e.g. "actually it's a small bowl of pasta, ~250 g") and have the AI re-estimate, or directly edit each macro field.
How do I delete a scan?
Long-press the scan in the recent-scans list → Delete. Today's macro totals update immediately.
Can I set macro goals?
Yes. Me tab → Macro goals. Forge auto-suggests a calorie target based on your profile (Mifflin-St Jeor BMR × activity multiplier, adjusted for your goal: −450 kcal for fat loss, +250 for muscle gain) and a protein target of 1.8 g/kg. You can override any field.
Are my scans uploaded anywhere?
The image goes to OpenAI for a single inference call and is discarded immediately by our backend (no DB write, no logging of the image bytes). The structured nutrition result is saved only on your device. We never store your photos.
AI Coach
What does the coach see?
Your profile (gender, age, height, weight, goal, level), today's macros + recent foods, latest body stats (BMI, body-fat % if estimated), and the conversation history. Everything is built locally on your phone and sent fresh with every turn — the server is stateless and doesn't keep any of it.
What can I ask?
Anything about training, nutrition, recovery, body composition, habits, or supplements. Off-topic asks (poems, code, news) get a one-sentence redirect. Medical questions (medications, injury rehab, eating disorders) get pointed to a qualified professional.
Why does the coach say "X / 50 messages left today"?
Daily quota. Free tier: locked behind premium upgrade. Premium: 50 messages per day per device. Resets at UTC midnight. There's also a per-minute burst cap so the coach never gets hammered with rapid-fire requests.
The coach replied with "rate_limited"?
Either you sent more than 8 messages in one minute, or you've hit the daily 50. Wait a minute / wait until tomorrow.
Body stats & progress photos
How is body-fat percentage estimated?
You take a photo and Forge sends it to OpenAI Vision along with your gender, age, height, and weight. The model returns an approximate percentage with a confidence rating (low / medium / high). It's a directional read, not a clinical measurement — treat the number as a trend signal across multiple photos, not a single point of truth.
Where are my progress photos stored?
On your device only, in the app's private documents directory. They're not uploaded to any server. The body-fat estimate sends the image to OpenAI for a single inference and discards it immediately. Uninstalling the app deletes every photo.
What's BMI vs body-fat %?
BMI is weight ÷ height². It doesn't distinguish muscle from fat, so a lean lifter can read "overweight" by BMI. Body-fat % is a better signal for body composition. Forge shows both so you can see the gap.
Health Connect (Android)
What is Health Connect?
A standard Android service that aggregates fitness data from your phone and other apps. Forge reads three fields: today's steps, distance, and active calories — to display them on the Me tab.
How do I connect Forge to Health Connect?
Me tab → "Connect activity" button → Health Connect opens → find Forge in the app list and toggle the read permissions on. Forge never writes to Health Connect; we only read what's needed for the activity card.
I don't see "Forge" in the Health Connect app list.
Make sure Forge has been opened at least once and that your Android version is 11 or higher. If it's still missing, try force-stopping the Health Connect app and reopening Forge.
Privacy & data
What data does Forge keep about me?
Almost everything stays on your device: profile, scans, progress photos, body-fat estimates, chat history. The only things the server sees are: anonymous device-id-based recommendations (which plan to suggest), workout completion timestamps (for streak math), and one-off OpenAI inference calls (image → structured response, not persisted).
Do you sell my data?
No. Forge has no advertising-data partners and we don't sell or share usage data. Ads come from Google AdMob and use only the standard Android advertising ID, which you control in your phone's settings.
How do I delete everything?
Uninstall Forge. All on-device data goes with it. The server-side data (workout completions tied to your device ID) ages out within 90 days of last activity. If you want immediate server-side deletion, email support@thestreak.fit with your device ID (Settings → About — coming soon, or just ask us).
